Fisheries and Food Security

Fisheries and Food Security

People and oceans are inextricably linked in many ways, but especially through the food and nutrition and related cultural ties that oceans provide to local communities. The livelihoods and well-being of people who practice fishing and cultivation of marine species in the Northeast Pacific are influenced by many factors, including variability in ocean conditions, economic uncertainty and the effects of management decisions. As we face an uncertain future and an ever expanding human population, sustainable fishing and aquaculture practices that are resilient to climate change will be critical to continue to provide food security to people in the region and around the globe.
