Gitg’at First Nation Guardian

Gitga’at Guardians work in the Gitga’at Oceans and Lands Department (GOLD) under the direct supervision of the Guardian Manager. Gitga’at Guardians have 3 primary responsibilities: First, Guardians protect the territory through regular field monitoring and reporting to ensure people and organizations using the territory are doing so in a manner consistent with Gitga’at values and with permits/agreements they have. Second, Guardians are responsible for supporting cultural and environmental monitoring and research programs GOLD leads, primarily through field data collection and logistic support. Third, Guardians support several community initiatives, including emergency response, various cultural and other community events, and vessel operations.
