f_enhftwmaabxmy.jpg

The core mandate of the DCO - Ocean Observing, working in close cooperation with GOOS, is to ensure a successful outcome for Ocean Decade Challenge 7: Expand the Global Ocean Observing System.

The DCO is currently funded for 0.75 FTE, with plans to expand this when fully operational to three (3) FTE. There is now a total of ninety one (91) Projects affiliated with the eleven (11) Programmes that are active under the oversight of the DCO- Ocean Observing; representing fully 30% of the total number of Projects endorsed by the Decade.

This Webinar will provide an overview of the activities of the DCO - Ocean Observing itself, a summary of the observing activity of the active Projects and Programmes, and an assessment of the requirements for ocean observing as determined by the Regional DCCs and the Vision 2030 Working Groups for the ten (10) Decade Challenges.

The Webinar will also review efforts to secure the necessary resources and funding for Ocean Observing within the Decade. The DCO is working to provide the tools and skills needed for scientists engaged in ocean observing to effectively engage with, pitch to, a nonscientific donor audience.
